Veterans ES Teacher Receives National Civic Education Award
September 11th, 2024
Veterans Elementary School (VES) fifth grade teacher Christian Pensiero recently was named a recipient of the 2024 American Civic Education Teacher Award (ACETA). She is one of only three teachers nationwide to win the award, which recognizes teachers who have shown exceptional expertise, dynamism and creativity in motivating students to learn about the Constitution, U.S. government at the federal, state and local levels, and public policy.
“Mrs. Pensiero’s expertise and collaborative relationships makes her a deserving recipient of the American Civic Education award. She consistently demonstrates innovative teaching methods, cultivates critical thinking skills, and instills civic values in her 5th students,” says VES principal Alexcia Redd. “Her commitment to empowering young learners to become informed and engaged citizens is truly commendable.”
Pensiero has been invited to attend the National Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference in Boston in November to receive her award and participate in the conference events.
ACETA is sponsored by the Center for Civic Education, the Center on Representative Government at Indiana University, and the National Education Association.
