Five HCPSS visual arts teachers have been honored with District Level Awards by the Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA). The teachers—Sammy Lerch (Phelps Luck ES), Amanda Pincheira (Running Brook ES), Bradford Sweet-Laughlin (Elkridge Landing MS), Monique Johnson (Reservoir HS), and Hannah Green (Centennial HS)—were recognized for making a significant difference in students’ lives and working to support, grow, and develop dynamic educational experiences for students and district arts communities in Howard County.
“This year’s District Level Award winners educators have demonstrated teaching skills and innovative approaches to art education, creating engaging curricula that foster a deep appreciation for the arts,” says Gino Molfino, HCPSS Fine Arts coordinator. “They actively participate in HCPSS initiatives, contributing to and actively participating in professional development at county-wide in-services. Their effective advocacy for art education includes organizing school art events, which promote the benefits of art education to their local communities. The MAEA’s recognition of these HCPSS teachers underscores their commitment to quality art education and highlights their significant impact on students, colleagues, and the community.”
Each year, MAEA honors new and experienced visual arts educators from each of the 24 districts in Maryland. This year’s honorees will be celebrated at a virtual ceremony in late May.
