Celebration of Excellence Honors Graduating Black and African-American Students
May 30th, 2024
The Council of Elders of the Black Community of Howard County (TCOE), in partnership with HCPSS and HCPSS’ Black Student Achievement Program, recently hosted its annual Celebration of Excellence event, recognizing Black and African-American students who maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average throughout their high school careers. More than 700 students were recognized at this year’s event, including nearly 200 students whose weighted GPA exceeded 4.0.
To commemorate their participation in the Celebration of Excellence, students received an engraved medallion featuring the Adinkra symbol of Sankofa. The symbol serves as a reminder of the connection between the past and the future.
TCOE is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization that has partnered with HCPSS for more than 25 years to implement programs that strive to uplift Black students, close the educational achievement gap, and to celebrate achievements that pave the way for future successes.
