HCPSS Schools Honored as 2024 Maryland Green Schools

April 26th, 2024

Eight HCPSS schools were recently announced as 2024 Maryland Green Schools by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE). The award signifies their commitment to developing stewards of the earth and reducing the school’s environmental impact.

“We are proud of how hard our schools work to support environmental education, and help students learn to become stewards of their environment,” says HCPSS coordinator of Elementary Science Amy Reese, who, along with several HCPSS colleagues, helps schools apply to become Green Schools. “Our students, teachers, administrators, and community have chosen to participate in the Maryland Green School program because they care about the Earth and want to generate change, encouraging all to form good life habits, such as recycling, composting, planting trees/plants, and caring for our waterways,” she adds.

HCPSS currently has 45 schools participating in the Maryland Green Schools program. The program provides educational opportunities for Pre-K–12 schools that promote responsible environmental stewardship practices and increase awareness of how our relationship with the environment ultimately impacts public health and society.

The 2024 Maryland Green Schools will be celebrated at the Annual Maryland Green Schools Youth Summit on May 30.
