Four teams from HCPSS’ Culinary Science Academy recently participated in the Maryland ProStart Student Invitational (MPSI), a statewide team culinary and hospitality management competition.

Teams from Howard and Wilde Lake high schools placed second and third, respectively, in the Management portion of the competition, during which teams developed a proposal for the next promising restaurant concept and presented it to a panel of industry judges. They were evaluated on their concept, layout and staffing plans, marketing tactics, menu, as well as their ability to solve common management problems.

A second Wilde Lake team as well as a team from River Hill High School participated in the Culinary portion of the competition. There, each team was challenged to prepare a three-course meal in 60 minutes, using only two butane burners, and without access to running water or electricity. River Hill’s team placed third in that event.
