Board of Education to Conduct National Superintendent Search

The Howard County Board of Education approved a resolution during its public Special Meeting on Dec. 14, 2023, to conduct a national search for a permanent Superintendent for the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS). It is the Board’s goal to hire a permanent Superintendent to start a four-year term beginning July 1, 2024. The Board has appointed Bill Barnes, current Chief Academic Officer, to serve as the Acting Superintendent for HCPSS between Thursday, Jan. 10, 2024, and June 30, 2024.

The HCPSS Office of Purchasing, in alignment with Policy 4050, Procurement of Goods and/or Services, will initiate the process to obtain professional services from a search firm or consultant to facilitate the search process. During this process, the Board will invite the public to provide input and plans to meet in January 2024 to develop a timeline and parameters for the search.
