Mt. Hebron High School Wins Seventh National Economics Championship

Mt. Hebron High School’s (MHHS) Economics team in May 2023 won its seventh national championship at the 2023 National Economics Challenge (NEC) in New York City. The team also defeated Team China in the international round of the event, establishing them as the world economics champions. This was Mt. Hebron’s 12th national finals appearance in the NEC, and its sixth consecutive year.

Coached by MHHS Social Studies teacher Vann Prime, this year’s MHHS Economics team included Satvik Marripalapu, Mehin Pandya, Joseph Phelps, and Nathaniel Ritter. MHHS students Natalie Venginickal and Samuel Lieman served as peer advisors.

Prior to its participation in the NEC, MHHS’ team took home its 19th state championship, advancing to the national semi-final competition, where it placed in the top six.

Sponsored by the Council for Economic Education (CEE) and the Maryland Council on Economic Education, the National Economics Challenge is the premier national competition in academic economics, drawing thousands of the best economics students from around the country.
