Oct. 14, 2022: Redistricting Process Update & Next Public Hearing

October 14th, 2022

On Oct. 13, the Howard County Board of Education held a work session related to the redistricting process to open New High School #13.

During the work session, the Board voted to continue considering the Superintendent’s Recommendation as the preliminary plan and to consider changes presented in the Work Session 4 – Scenario 2 plan. The changes would reassign polygons 26, 27,1026 and 1027 from Thomas Viaduct Middle School to Patuxent Valley Middle School, impacting approximately 74 students. These polygons were already part of the Superintendent’s Recommendation to attend New High School #13 and are located North of Maryland Route 32 and East of Interstate 95. Included neighborhoods are along Mission and Guilford roads including Mission Heights, Heritage Woods, Nordeau, Aspenwood and Asbury Woods.

Please use the Redistricting Attendance Area Locator tool to find your polygon used for the purpose of establishing school attendance areas to see how you are impacted by these changes.

The Board will continue to evaluate the Superintendent’s Recommendation with the addition in future work sessions. The Board has a public hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Members of the public who wish to testify but cannot attend a public hearing may submit written testimony online or via USPS mail (Howard County Board of Education, 10910 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21042).
