Update on Redistricting Process to Open New High School #13
September 22nd, 2022
On Sept. 21, the Howard County Board of Education held a work session related to the redistricting process to open New High School #13.
During the work session, two Board motions were passed, clarifying the implication of boundary adjustments under review.
- The first motion exempts all rising 11th graders and provides the ability to opt-in for transportation.
- The second motion affirms that only rising 9th and rising 10th grade students will be redistricted to open New High School #13. This motion confirms that rising 11th and rising 12th graders will be exempt from being redistricted during this process.
The Board also made several motions to request more data from HCPSS staff and consultants from Cooperative Strategies to inform the discussions that will occur at the next work session, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The Board of Education has additional work sessions and public hearings scheduled, and may add more if needed. Community members may continue to provide input to the Board online.
