2022 Bright Minds Grants Support Innovative Classroom Projects

Eighteen Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) educators have been awarded grants by the Bright Minds Foundation, the school system’s education foundation. The grants, totaling nearly $25,000, will be used to fund innovative instructional projects during the 2022-2023 school year.
The 2022 grant recipients and their projects are:

- Laura Cometa, Wilde Lake High School, Empowering English/Multilingual Learners Through Literacy
- Sharon Dudley, Guilford Elementary School, Delving into Diversity
- Kara Fick, Oakland Mills High School, Anxiety Relief
- Brittany Fitzpatrick, Homewood Center, Beyond the 21
- Deborah Holmes, Gorman Crossing Elementary School, Morning Meetings: Making Social Emotional Learning Time Meaningful
- Amy Kelly, Multiple Schools, School-Based Grief/Loss Support Group (Pre-K-5th grade)
- David Klotz, Howard High School, Howard High Corner Café – Food Bank
- Michelle Levin, Hanover Hills Elementary School, Hanover Hills Community Garden
- Julia Lubelczyk, Laurel Woods Elementary School, Infusing Decodable Texts into Classroom Libraries
- Dennis McDonald, Talbott Springs Elementary School, Building Fluency and Community with Math Games
- Samantha Rangos, Atholton High School, Vertical Non-Permanent Surfaces
- Callie Sibrian-Alas, Hammond High School, Integrating LabQuest Pros into the Curriculum

The grant recipients will be recognized at a Board of Education meeting in September.
The Bright Minds Foundation works to ensure that each student has access to the education, resources, and opportunities needed to succeed in school and in life. It brings together community support for programs and initiatives that increase education access, equity, and innovation. Bright Minds programs respond to urgent and ongoing needs of students in four key areas: literacy and school readiness; digital inclusion and access to learning; education innovation and teacher support; and college access.
