Maryland parents, school administrators, school system superintendents, school counselors and teachers evaluated the nominees based on several criteria, including leadership and advocacy initiatives and contributions to student outcomes.

MCSA will formally honor O’Connor, Hoffman, and the other awardees at its National School Counseling Week first-ever virtual gala on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 6 p.m. on its Facebook Live Page.

In addition, as Maryland Counselor of the Year, O’Connor will be nominated for the national School Counselor of the Year award.
