March 6th, 2021
Glenwood Middle School counselor Elizabeth O’Connor (above) has been recognized as the Maryland School Counselor of the Year by the Maryland School Counselor Association (MCSA). In addition, Jill Hoffman (below), a counselor at Howard High School, has been named the Maryland High School Counselor of the Year.
Professional school counselors from across the state were nominated for these awards. Maryland parents, school administrators, school system superintendents, school counselors and teachers evaluated the nominees based on several criteria, including leadership and advocacy initiatives and contributions to student outcomes.
MCSA will formally honor O’Connor, Hoffman, and the other awardees at its National School Counseling Week first-ever virtual gala on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 6 p.m. on its Facebook Live Page.
In addition, as Maryland Counselor of the Year, O’Connor will be nominated for the national School Counselor of the Year award.
The Maryland School Counselor Association is a professional association that provides opportunities for professional development, networking, and advocacy for the state’s public and private school counselors, as well as school counseling graduate students and counselor educators.
