WKD Karate 4 Girls Partnership Promotes Empowerment for Students

Deep Run Elementary School (DRES) has partnered with WKD Karate 4 Girls (WKD) to support and implement programs that promote academic excellence, leadership skills and empowerment.

Under the terms of the agreement, DRES staff will collaborate with WKD to conduct a Girl Power mentorship program with select 4th and 5th grade students. WKD will lead discussions on topics such as life skills, bullying, fitness, leadership and confidence. WKD will also offer workshops for DRES staff on topics such as personal safety and wellness.

The formal partnership agreement was signed by HCPSS Superintendent Michael J. Martirano, Deep Run Elementary School Principal Denise Lancaster and WKD Karate 4 Girls Master Monique Washington-Jones.

WKD Karate For Girls is a martial arts leadership academy offering karate classes, self defense workshops, after-school programs, empowerment lectures, summer camps and mentoring programs.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office has united schools with more than 1,000 businesses and community organizations to enhance the educational experience of Howard County students. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
