2020 Battle of the Books Canceled

HCPSS and the Howard County Library System consider the health and safety of our students, customers and staff a top priority. Due to the recommendations from Governor Hogan to practice social distancing and cancel large events, the 2020 Battle of the Books is canceled. This event typically draws approximately 1,000 people to each of six sites. We know how much the students have been looking forward to this event, and we share your disappointment.

Rescheduling is unfortunately not an option due to the number of sites needed for the more than 300 teams, and other factors. All students registered for the event will receive a certificate of completion.

Elementary schools may choose to individually host a mock battle once social distancing norms are lifted, and will be provided with resources for their use.
