January 6th, 2020

Register online by Friday, February 28

The Howard County Public School System will hold its 16th regional History Day competition on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Long Reach High School. Community members are invited to participate as a judge for the competition. Judges review and evaluate student work based on criteria set by the national History Day Commission.

History Day is a national program promoting the study of history, while providing a forum at which students compete in any of several categories: documentary, performance, exhibit, web page or historical paper. Howard County’s competition is part of the Maryland History Day program, which serves as the local affiliate for National History Day. Award winners at the Howard County competition will represent HCPSS at the state competition; state winners will then compete at the national level.

More information, including entry expectations for each category and judging rubrics, are provided on the National History Day website.

Judging takes place from approximately 8:00 a.m. –1:00 p.m. Judges are encouraged to stay through the awards ceremony. Please complete a brief online judging registration form by February 28, 2020.

Judging assignments, instructions and other details will be e-mailed approximately one week prior to the competition. For more information, please contact Kelly_Reichardt@hcpss.org or call the Social Studies Office (410-313-6622).
