HCPSS Students to Join Millions in 2019 Global Coding Event

December 4th, 2019

To mark Computer Science Education Week, all HCPSS schools will take part in Hour of Code activities, December 9-13. Throughout the week, Howard County students will join tens of millions of students worldwide to engage in computer science and coding activities. Hour of Code provides students a fun opportunity to learn more about computer science programs and requires no previous experience in the area. Concepts help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills to help prepare students for any future career.

HCPSS Instructional Technology and Career and Technical Education offices are working with school staff to create opportunities for students at every level to try computer science for at least one hour during the week. Classroom participation will include discussions about Hour of Code and why participation is important, learning and understanding new coding vocabulary words, online coding activities, and offline coding activities like robotics and classroom work. Activities at each school will vary.

Check with your child’s school for specific activities and events. Ask your child what they learned and take part in coding activities at home!
