MSDE School Climate Survey To Be Administered Fall 2018

October 1st, 2018

Recent state law requires that all Maryland public schools conduct an annual student survey about school climate. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of the learning environment at each school, and to support schools and the district in promoting a climate that fosters student learning and well-being.

The 20-30 minute online survey will be administered during the school day. Individual schools will communicate their specific date(s) for administration during the October 8–November 9 survey window. Students in grades 5-11 and instructional staff members will be asked to respond to questions on topics, such as student engagement, interactions with adults and other students in the school, the school environment, bullying and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate their privacy.

All survey responses and results will be confidential, and school and district personnel will not have access to the responses of individual students. The responses each child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and will be reported at the school and overall district level. For the 2018-2019 school year, the survey will be administered a second time in the spring.
