HCPSS Schools Excel at 2018 U.S. Academic Bee and Bowl

A student team from Centennial Lane Elementary School was named the national U.S. Academic Bee and Bowl champions and a Burleigh Manor Middle School student was named National Science Bee champion at the U.S. Academic Bowl, and other HCPSS teams placed nationally.

Four teams from Burleigh Manor Middle School and Centennial Lane Elementary School, and two teams from Clarksville Middle School recently competed at the U.S. Academic Bee and Bowl, a national quiz competition for elementary and middle school students. The U.S. Academic Bee and Bowl includes the National Science Bee and National Humanities Bee and was held in Atlanta.

For the second year in a row, Centennial Lane Elementary School’s It’s Academic Team won the National Championship. The Centennial Lane “A” team of fifth-graders Max Swann and Claire Wang, and fourth-graders Brad Cao and Jeremy Kantsiper, went undefeated (11–0) at the competition.

The Centennial Lane “B” Team, made up of Oyujin Damdinsuren, Dhruv Veda, Albert Cao and Ryan Chang, finished seventh in the nation. A total of 17 Centennial Lane students competed at the national tournament.

Centennial Lane’s Claire Wang placed third in the Elementary Division (sixth grade and younger) at the National Humanities Bee.

At the third annual National Science Bee national championships, Burleigh Manor Middle School student Anurag Sodhi was named national champion after winning the Elementary Division. Centennial Lane Elementary School student Maxwell Swann finished third in the category.
