Student Future Leaders to Attend Peer Leadership Conference

April 3rd, 2017

Over 500 Howard County Public School System elementary students will attend the 14th annual Peer Leadership Conference on Thursday, April 27, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Columbia. HCPSS elementary school counselors sponsor the event, which is designed to help potential leaders realize and understand the positive influence they can have on classmates and in their school community.

Invited participants will experience dynamic leadership training and activities throughout the day centered on this year’s theme of “Making a Difference.” Presentation topics include: communication skills, teamwork, self-discipline, leadership in action, and using your voice to help others. Director of Leadership Development for the Howard County Public School System, Scott Ruehl, will deliver the keynote address.

Students selected for participation have taken on peer leadership roles in their schools, classrooms or community. Also attending are students who have shown strong leadership potential.
