Howard County Food Bank Partnership Provides Food Assistance for HCPSS Families

The Howard County Community Action Council’s Howard County Food Bank is partnering with the Howard County Public School System to provide students and families with access to nonperishable foods. The partnership will be formalized with an official partnership signing on Wednesday, April 19, at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant in Columbia, Maryland.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, the Howard County Food Bank will work with school principals to create in-school food pantries, host temporary mobile pantries, and provide families with information about the Community Action Council’s energy assistance, early childhood education, and housing assistance programs. In accordance with the Emergency Food Assistance Program, the Howard County Food Bank will provide nonperishable food throughout the year for income-eligible households. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership supports direct connections with families in need of additional support.

Howard County Board of Education Member Sandra French, Longfellow Elementary School Principal Laurel Marsh and Guidance Counselor Lori Jenner will join Howard County Community Action Council Board Chairperson Clarence Lam, Board Member Lori Conforti, Executive Director Bita Dayhoff, Howard County Community Action Council Howard County Food Bank Director of Food Services Phillip Dodge and Warehouse Manager Bishop Williams to sign the formal partnership agreement at the April 19 event.

Community Action Council of Howard County‘s mission is to diminish poverty, enable self-sufficiency, and advocate for low-income families and individuals. CAC’s programs include early childhood education, housing assistance, energy and weatherization, and food assistance.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office has united schools with more than 1,000 businesses and community organizations to enhance the educational experience of Howard County students. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
