Twelve academically talented Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) high school students have been awarded the Howard County Public Schools Superintendent’s Award at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). This prestigious award is offered to a limited number of entering freshmen that have earned academic distinction during their high school careers.
This year’s winners are: Heather Ailinger (Reservoir High School), Caroline Boone (Wilde Lake High School), Gavin Courtright (Howard High School), Divya Gupta (Mount Hebron High School), Jeremy Hess (Glenelg High School), Ayush Jain (Marriotts Ridge High School), Ting Li (Centennial High School), Dahbin Park (Long Reach High School), Shirley Shi (Atholton High School), Sami Smith (Hammond High School), Prateek Swamykumar (River Hill High School), and Morgan Vanderhei (Oakland Mills High School).
HCPSS and UMBC announced their partnership to provide this scholarship opportunity for HCPSS students in 2014. The UMBC-Howard County Public School System Superintendent Award is given annually to one academically talented senior from each of the 12 HCPSS high schools. The four-year award ranges from $12,000–18,000 per year, based on each recipient’s academic credentials.
To receive the award, students must maintain continuous full-time enrollment at UMBC beginning with the fall 2017 semester. The award is offered for a total of four years, as long as the recipient maintains the required 3.25 minimum cumulative GPA.
