Education and the Economy Discussed at Education Foundation Event

The Bright Minds Foundation, in conjunction with the Howard County Public School System, hosted its second annual event for the education and the business communities. The program, “Education and the Economy—Locally and Globally,” was held on Thursday, February 9, at Turf Valley Conference Center in Ellicott City.
Three featured experts highlighted the links between education and the local, national and global economy. Speakers offered unique and expert perspectives:
- Renee A. Foose, Ed.D., Superintendent, Howard County Public School System, discussed college and career readiness of students as they graduate with skills and knowledge to be successful in a dynamic, global economy.
- Peter Kannam, Managing Partner, America Achieves, discussed global education and benchmarking Howard County public schools against the world’s best.
- Brandon Busteed, Executive Director of Education and Workforce Development at Gallup, and author of “The Education Economy: America’s Next Big Thing,” discussed the need for an economy driven by a highly educated work force and a high quality school system.
