Howard County Human Resources Society Partners with HCPSS to Support Workforce Initiatives

May 10th, 2016

In a new partnership, the Howard County Human Resources Society will collaborate with the Howard County Public School System to support workforce initiatives that prepare students for the world of work. The partnership will be formalized with an official signing on Wednesday, May 11 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant, 10207 Wincopin Circle.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, the Howard County Human Resources Society will work with HCPSS Career Research and Development staff to provide professional development opportunities for teachers on subjects such as the effective use of social media, job recruitment and resume writing. The Society will also provide interview support for the HCPSS Passport to the Future program, which endorses students who seek employment in the region as “workforce ready.”

HCPSS teachers will attend Society membership meetings and will work with Society members to explore internship and job shadowing opportunities for students. Aligned with Vision 2018, this partnership provides staff with professional learning opportunities with experts in their field and engages students in the learning process.

HCPSS Family and Consumer Sciences and Career Research and Development Instructional Facilitator Laurie Collins will join Howard County Human Resources Society President Dawn Rhodes and Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Business Resource Representative Steve Ober to sign the formal partnership agreement at the May 11 event.

An affiliate of the national Society for Human Resource Management, the Howard County Human Resources Society represents high levels of professionalism and service to its member human resources professionals and to the larger Howard County business community. Members represent profit and not-for-profit organizations, large and small companies, consultants, service providers, and academia.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office unites businesses and community organizations with schools to enhance the educational experience. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
