Bethel Baptist Church Supports School Readiness Initiatives at Veterans Elementary School

April 19th, 2016

Veterans Elementary School (VES) is partnering with Bethel Baptist Church to promote school readiness initiatives and provide resources to students and families. The partnership will be formalized with an official partnership signing on Wednesday, April 20 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant, 10207 Wincopin Circle.

Under the terms of the agreement, Bethel Baptist Church representatives will collaborate with HCPSS staff to support Ready at Five early childhood learning parties by helping to facilitate and implement curriculum for students and by providing meals for families in attendance. Learning parties are interactive, hands-on, parent/child events that promote young children’s development of school readiness skills.

Bethel Baptist Church will also conduct school supply, holiday meal, and clothing drives throughout the school year and will provide food and gift items to adopted families during the holiday season. This partnership supports Vision 2018 strategies to provide equitable access to a rigorous instructional program and promote the development of a convenient family education program that strengthens student and family supports.

HCPSS Early Childhood Resource Teacher Kym Nwosu, Veterans Elementary School Principal Bob Bruce and Assistant Principal Melisha Martin will join Bethel Baptist Church Senior Pastor Ken Cavey, Preschool Director Michelle Abernathy and Missions Director Joe Collins to sign the formal partnership agreement at the April 20 event.

Bethel Baptist Church, located in Ellicott City, Maryland, welcomes all people to join in worship services, journey groups, children’s church and preschool programs.
