HCPSS Seeks Citizen Members for Policy Development/Revision Committees

HCPSS invites citizens to take an active role in developing and revising school system policies as members of policy development/revision committees. The knowledge, experience and perspective shared by community stakeholders improve the policy review process and ensure transparency at every stage of the committee’s work.
Each committee typically meets 4–5 times to discuss and make policy recommendations regarding educational programs and school system operations.
For the 2016–2017 school year, HCPSS is currently seeking candidates for membership on the following policy development/revision committees. Each committee will include one member representing the General Citizens stakeholder group. All HCPSS policies can be viewed online at http://www.hcpss.org/board/policies.
- Policy 1050: Tobacco-Free Environment*
- Policy 1060: Bullying, Cyberbullying, Harassment, or Intimidation
- Policy 2010: Student Representation
- Policy 2060: Advisory Committees to the Board of Education
- Policy 3060: Data Privacy (new)
- Policy 6010: School Attendance Area
- Policy 8010: Grading and Reporting: Pre-Kindergarten Through Grade 8
- Policy 8200: Digital Education (new)
- Policy 9100: Educational Programs for Pregnant and Parenting Students
- Policy 9240: Student Use and Possession of Tobacco Products*
- Policy 9400: Special Education (new)
*One committee will review both Policy 1050 and Policy 9240
Interested citizens may submit a statement of interest online at http://hcpssne.ws/policyDevCitizenForm, complete and email this form to policy@hcpss.org, or mail a printed copy to Policy/Charter Schools Office, 10910 Clarksville Pike Ellicott City, Maryland 21042. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 29, 2016. Citizens should submit a separate form for each policy committee of interest.
