Stevens Forest Elementary School Hosts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Stevens Forest Elementary School celebrated the unveiling of its new canopy, entrance way and bike rack donated by Bicycling Advocates of Howard County at a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 11.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, HCPSS representatives signed a memorandum of understanding with Bike Maryland to promote health and fitness through a bicycle safety program for select elementary schools. Bike Maryland’s Bike-Minded Rodeo includes classroom education and a rodeo skills safety course for students in grades 2–5. Bike Maryland will provide bicycles and training equipment for the safety course.
Howard County Board of Education Vice Chairman Ellen Flynn Giles, Board Member Ann De Lacy, and Stevens Forest Elementary School Principal Ernesto Diaz joined BAHC President Jack Guarneri, Member Fran Horan, Bike Maryland Education Coordinator Brian Kopp, Howard County Office of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator Chris Eatough, and representatives from the Stevens Forest Elementary School PTA, Howard County Police Department and HCPSS at the March 11 event.
Bicycling Advocates of Howard County works to improve the visibility and safety of the bicycling community in Howard County, fosters and supports bicycle commuting as an alternative to automobiles, and promotes a vision of bicycling as part of an energy efficient transportation system.
Bike Maryland promotes bicycling, increases safety, improves conditions and provides a voice for bicyclists in Maryland.
The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office unites businesses and community organizations with schools to enhance the educational experience. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
