HCPSS Staff and Organization Recognized at the November Board of Education Meetings

Superintendent Renee A. Foose recognized the following staff and organizational achievements at the Board of Education meetings on November 5 and November 19, 2015:
Staff:
HCPSS Acting Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics Jennifer Novak recently was named president of the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics. MCTM is the largest mathematics education association in the state. Novak has served on the MCTM board for six years and won a statewide election last fall. Dunloggin Middle School Math Team Lead Samantha Hendershot was elected as the MCTM Middle School Level Representative.
Patuxent Valley Middle School Mathematics teacher Zac Stavish received the Beginning Mathematics Teacher Award, and Murray Hill Middle School Mathematics Instructional Support Teacher Elizabeth Zinger received the Middle School Mathematics Teacher Award from the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
HCPSS Secondary Social Studies Coordinator Dr. Mark Stout was elected to the Board of Directors for the National Social Studies Supervisors Association. The Association promotes the common interest of social studies supervisors and leaders. It includes members in nearly all 50 states and a number of other countries.
Organization:
District Administration has named HCPSS a District of Distinction for its Elementary School Model program. Districts of Distinction honors school districts that are leading the way with new ideas that work. HCPSS was one of only 35 districts from across the country and the only Maryland school system to receive the honor this fall.
