Lieutenant Governor and County Executive to Join HCPSS First Day of School Tour

Maryland Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford and Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman will join Board of Education Chairman Janet Siddiqui and Superintendent Renee A. Foose for a tour of several elementary, middle and high schools on Monday, August 24, the first day of the 2015–2016 school year for the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS).

The tour begins at Hammond High School, 8800 Guilford Road, Columbia, at 7:30 a.m.

At 8:15 a.m., the group will visit Atholton High School at 6520 Freetown Road, Columbia.

The Cedar Lane School at 11630 Scaggsville Road, Fulton, Maryland will receive a visit at 8:55 a.m. Lime Kiln Middle School, 11650 Scaggsville Road in Fulton, will be next at 9:30 a.m.

Hammond Elementary School at 8110 Aladdin Drive, Laurel, Maryland, and Hammond Middle School, 8100 Aladdin Drive in Laurel, will both receive visits starting at 10:10 a.m.

Atholton Elementary School, 6700 Seneca Drive, Columbia, Maryland, will be the final stop of the morning at 11:15 a.m.

The total projected enrollment for this academic year is expected to exceed 53,400 students, an increase of more than 1,000 students over last year. The system hired approximately 400 new teachers this summer to accommodate the enrollment growth in the county’s 77 schools.
