The Maryland Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement Program (MESA) of the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) will host the Howard County Regional MESA Day competitions on April 10 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. The event will be held at the Kossiakoff Conference and Education Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Maryland.

Elementary, middle, and high school students will compete in cyber security and computer programming events, hovercraft construction and racing, and wood bridge design and build. Creative and innovative abilities will be evaluated in effective communications and theme park ride challenges. HCPSS MESA students who win at this local competition will compete against students from other Maryland school districts in the state finals.

Middle and high school students will compete in the Prosthetic Arm Challenge, the MESA USA national competition, with the winner being eligible to compete for a chance to represent Maryland in the national event in Ogden, Utah in June.

MESA is a structured, multi-year, pre-college program that prepares students for academic and professional careers in mathematics, engineering, science and technology. Additional details may be obtained from Diane B. Martin, 410-313-5673.
