Pointers Run Elementary School Launches In-School Bank

September 30th, 2014

In a new partnership, Pointers Run Elementary School and Sandy Spring Bank will work together to teach students the importance of personal financial planning and the benefits of saving. The partnership will be formalized with an official signing Wednesday, October 1 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant, 10207 Wincopin Circle.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, Sandy Spring Bank will create an in-school bank for Pointers Run Elementary students and staff. Selected fourth and fifth grade students will be trained as tellers and will tour the bank to learn how a local financial institution operates. Sandy Spring Bank representatives also will work with school staff to develop opportunities to teach financial math skills and will provide information about career options in the banking industry. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership provides learning experiences that promote critical thinking and depth of knowledge.

Pointers Run Elementary School Assistant Principal Mary Nimmich and Administrative Intern Dee Lake will join Sandy Spring Bank Assistant Branch Manager Kunal Patel to sign the formal partnership agreement at the October 1 event.
