Howard County Food Bank Partnership Targets Hunger

September 4th, 2014

The Howard County Community Action Council’s Howard County Food Bank is partnering with Bryant Woods Elementary School (BWES) to create an in-school food pantry for students and their families. The partnership will be formalized with an official signing on Sept. 5 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant, 10207 Wincopin Circle.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement and in accordance with the Maryland Food Bank’s Emergency Assistance Program, the Howard County Food Bank will collaborate with BWES staff to provide nutritious, non-perishable food for income eligible households. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership supports direct connections with families in need of additional support.

Howard County Board of Education Chairman Ellen Flynn Giles, Board Member Sandra French and HCPSS Deputy Superintendent Linda Wise will join Bryant Woods Elementary School Principal Kelley Hough, Howard County Community Action Council President Bita Dayhoff, Director of Operations Anne Brinker and Food Bank Coordinator Bishop “Patrick” Williams to sign the agreement.

The Community Action Council provides programs and services for low-income residents of Howard County to alleviate the effects of poverty and promote self-sufficiency. Services include Eviction Prevention, First Month’s Rent, Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Food Bank and Head Start.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office (www.hcpss.org/about-us/partnerships) unites businesses and community organizations with schools to enhance the educational experience. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses, and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
