HCPSS Offers Evening School Classes

August 18th, 2014

HCPSS offers Evening School classes for high school credit at the Homewood Center during the school year. The original credit and credit recovery classes are available to junior or senior students who are trying to graduate from high school in a timely manner. This includes students who have dropped out and then returned to school, those with a history of academic difficulties who have fallen behind, and those who are having difficulty adapting to a comprehensive school environment. Original credit classes meet for the whole school year.  Credit Recovery classes meet for a semester and are available to students who have already taken but failed a course

Students can earn original credit in full-year English 12, geometry, algebra, environmental science, and introduction to physics and chemistry classes. Students who have failed English 9, 10, or 11; American government; modern world history; or U.S. history can participate in a Credit Recovery program that allows them to earn the credit in a semester or less.

There is no fee for these classes. Families must arrange transportation to and from class. Classes meet either from 5-6:30 p.m. or 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings when regular HCPSS classes are in session.

Registration for Evening School courses is done through school counselors. Questions about the program can be addressed to your school’s counselor or to Judy Young at judy_young@hcpss.org.
