Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City Partnership Promotes Self-Esteem and Leadership

November 25th, 2014

The Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City is partnering with Bryant Woods Elementary School to promote character development, self-esteem and perseverance for students. The partnership will be formalized with an official partnership signing on Monday, December 1 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant in Columbia, Maryland.

The Kiwanis Club will provide materials and funding to support the school’s PRIDE program. PRIDE encourages a positive attitude, respect, integrity, dedication and enthusiasm, and supports school food drives and philanthropic events. Kiwanis Club members will also support Key Clubs, which teach leadership through service to others, at five Howard County high schools. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership reinforces civility and actively involves students in building positive school environments.

Howard County Board of Education Chairman Ellen Flynn Giles and Bryant Woods Elementary School Principal Kelley Hough will join Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City President Bob Martin, Secretary Rich Funke and Service Leadership Programs Committee Chair Rhonda-Cheree Johnson to sign the formal partnership agreement at the December 1 event.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City has been providing community service to Howard County for 74 years through support for various youth organizations including the Howard County Youth Baseball Program, Howard Community College and Howard County General Hospital.
