LINQ Connect Returned Check Fees

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) uses LINQ Connect for many items related to food and nutrition, including for families to make payments to their child’s account. HCPSS was notified by LINQ Connect that effective October 1, payments made via electronic check that are returned will incur a $25 fee.

To address the returned checks charges, the following changes in the LINQ Connect online meal payment system will be implemented:

• The returned item fee will be added to the parent’s/guardian’s child meal account under a new heading “ACH Return Check Fees;”
• The opportunity to use the automated payment method for meals will be disabled for families with one or more check returns; and
• Food and Nutrition Services will engage families to assist with resolving payment issues.

In addition to utilizing the ACH/e-check options, payments can be made in the LINQ Connect app/website via credit card or debit card, or paper check submitted to the school. Families are encouraged to ensure payment information is accurate and current in LINQ Connect, and ensure their bank account has sufficient funds prior to submitting a payment.

LINQ Connect is a secure, online portal that allows families to view breakfast and lunch menus, make online payments to their child’s meal account, monitor their child’s accounts, schedule recurring payments and/or low balance alerts, and submit an online application for the Free and Reduced Meals program.
