HCPSS Seeks Name Suggestions for New Early Childhood Center
August 25th, 2026
Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is now accepting public suggestions for the name of a new early childhood center located in Faulkner Ridge (10598 Marble Faun Lane, Columbia, MD). The center is anticipated to serve 3- and 4-year old children, supporting and promoting their school readiness.
Howard County Board of Education Policy 6050, Naming and Renaming Schools, requires that all schools be named using geographic terms related to the areas of the county they serve. Given that the new early childhood center will serve students across Howard County, any geographic terms from within Howard County may be used. Policy 6050 does not allow for schools to be named for specific individuals.
Students, staff, and family members are encouraged to submit their name suggestions using this online form. All suggestions must be provided through the online form by September 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. to be considered.
All names will be reviewed and considered by a committee of HCPSS stakeholders, and a list of recommendations will be presented to the Board of Education for selection at a future date.
