April 7th, 2026
Running Brook Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Beth Rosas has been named Maryland’s 2026 Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year by the Maryland Council for Social Studies (MDCSS). Rosas, who has been teaching in Howard County for 20 years and holds National Board Certification, was recognized for her innovation in the classroom and leadership in the field.
“Beth Rosas is the kind of educator who doesn’t just meet expectations, she redefines them. She constantly goes above and beyond, not only in her own classroom but across the entire education community,” says Kim Eggborn, HCPSS’ Coordinator of Elementary Social Studies. “As a dedicated Social Studies curriculum writer for many years and a committed member of the HCPSS Simulated Congressional Hearings Cadre of Mentors, Beth has uplifted and supported 5th grade teachers across our entire county. She also served as a mentor teacher at a state level-workshop, which further expanded her impact.”
“Beth’s passion for making Social Studies accessible, meaningful, and engaging for all shines through in everything she does,” Eggborn adds. “Her impact is lasting, her enthusiasm is contagious, and she is truly a standout educator that is more than deserving of recognition as Maryland’s Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year!”
RBES Principal Gillian Spivey concurs, noting that “Beth is a phenomenal educator. This award is well deserved, and I am thrilled that her content expertise and unwavering dedication to students are being recognized.”
