Adjustments to 2025-2026 Board of Education Meeting Schedule

December 16th, 2025

Beginning in January 2026, the Howard County Board of Education will implement a new meeting schedule on a trial basis for the first quarter of the year (January-March), shifting to one regular monthly meeting instead of two.

Historically, the Board schedules two regularly scheduled meetings that begin at 4:00 p.m. and conclude by 10:00 p.m. Additionally, the Board holds committee meetings, work sessions, closed session meetings, coffee and conversations, and joint meetings with the County Council, among other meetings.

During the first three months of the year, the Board will hold one regularly scheduled meeting each month that begins at 4:00 p.m. and concludes by 10:00 p.m. This new meeting schedule will better accommodate additional budget work sessions, and budget and policy public hearings that are necessary for Board deliberations during the budget season. Furthermore, eliminating three meetings during the quarter will save the system approximately $5,500. The public will continue to have opportunities to participate in Public Forum during each regularly scheduled meeting and can always submit written testimony to the Board.

The Board will reassess this adjusted meeting schedule at the end of March and determine whether to continue the adjusted schedule or revert to two regularly scheduled meetings per month.
