Vanessa Morales Named Inaugural Student Access and Achievement Liaison of the Year

Wilde Lake High School’s Vanessa Morales has been named the first-ever HCPSS Student Access and Achievement (SAA) Liaison of the Year. Morales was recognized by the SAA leadership team for her success in meeting the following criteria:
- demonstrating significant positive impact on students, families, and staff, with strong evidence of contributions to attendance, achievement, access, acceptance;
- demonstrating expertise in inspiring learning, subject matter expertise, and fostering collaboration;
- exhibiting strong leadership and collaboration skills to promote equity and access to opportunities and educational experiences, maximizing student achievement and fostering outstanding collaboration with stakeholders; and
- serving as model citizens in their school, community, and broader professional community, maintaining high moral standards in their personal and professional conduct.
During her 17-year career at HCPSS, Morales has served as a Hispanic Achievement liaison, grant administrator, site coordinator, and volunteer health coordinator. Throughout that time, she has “consistently worked to bridge cultural gaps, provide crucial support, and ensure access to resources,” says one of her nominators, adding that “Vanessa remains a driving force in empowering the Hispanic community and fostering inclusive environments in Howard County.”
“Vanessa’s dedication over the past 17 years has made her an invaluable treasure to our entire school system,” notes HCPSS Hispanic Achievement Program Supervisor Gastón Gámez. “Her profound knowledge, vibrant passion, and evident love for her work shine brilliantly, exceeding all expectations. She has enriched the lives of hundreds of students and families, fostering their academic success, consistent attendance, sense of belonging, and access to vital programs and resources.”
Morales is one of HCPSS’ 27 Hispanic Achievement Liaisons, charged with collaborating with students, staff, families, and community members to accelerate the academic achievement of all students.
Morales was honored with this award on May 14 during the final SAA meeting of the year.
