HCPSS Schools Recognized for LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity
June 12th, 2024
Five HCPSS schools recently earned Rainbow Ribbons from the Community Allies of Rainbow Youth (CARY) for their work to create affirming and inclusive school communities for LGBTQIA+ students.
The schools—Clarksville, Dayton Oaks and Phelps Luck elementary schools; Burleigh Manor Middle School; and Reservoir High School—fulfilled eight criteria to earn a Rainbow Ribbon, including the representation of LGBTQIA+ people across the curricula, effectively preventing and addressing LGBTQIA+ targeted bullying, and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community through school events.
Achievement of these criteria have been verified by students at each of the recognized schools.
Five additional schools—Centennial Lane Elementary School; Hammond Middle School; and Atholton, Centennial and River Hill high schools—also earned Stripe Awards from CARY for their work toward earning a Rainbow Ribbon.
