HCPSS Teachers Take Home Top Statewide Honors from Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics
October 26th, 2023
Two HCPSS secondary mathematics teachers recently were awarded honors from the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM). Scott Boettinger of Elkridge Landing Middle School was named the Outstanding Beginning Mathematics Teacher, and Nina Diehl of Murray Hill Middle School was named the Outstanding Middle School Mathematics Teacher. They were recognized based on their excellence in mathematics education and their implementation of effective and research-informed practices in their daily work with students, staff, and families.
The MCTM Awards are given annually, honoring outstanding math teachers at each educational level (elementary, middle, high school and college), as well as “mathematics leaders,” who have served as a mathematics coach, district/school leader, and/or other position in which they provided ongoing support to educators to support professional growth. Awardees are selected from schools across the state.
“In the mathematics community in Howard County and Maryland, Nina Diehl and Scott Boettinger stand as exemplary figures, embodying the essence of dedicated and effective teacher professionals,” says Jon Wray, HCPSS Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics. “Their commitment to creating nurturing and inclusive classroom environments, where every student feels a sense of belonging and confidence in their mathematical abilities, is nothing short of commendable.”
Boettinger and Diehl were honored at the MCTM Outstanding Educator Awards Banquet in October.
