Mt. Hebron Seniors Win Congressional App Challenge

Mt. Hebron High School seniors Caroline Kasuba, Rashi Kejriwal and Shreya Santhanagopalan recently won the 2019 Congressional App Challenge for Maryland’s 7th Congressional District for their application, Safe Haven. The app is designed to provide safe, comfortable temporary homes through crowd-sourced volunteers for people who have been displaced by natural disasters.

The Congressional App Challenge is considered one of the most prestigious prizes in student computer science. The students competed against their peers in the 7th Congressional District by creating an original application for mobile, web or computer devices. The App Challenge is open to middle and high school students, and aims to promote innovation and engagement in coding, computer science and STEM.

Included in the judging for the 7th Congressional District competition was HCPSS Career and Technology Education Coordinator Sharon Kramer.

The winning students’ app will be featured in a U.S. Capitol display.
