Solar Eclipse on August 21

August 17th, 2017

A solar eclipse will move through our region on Monday, August 21, 2017, between 1:15-4:00 p.m., with primary coverage occurring at approximately 2:45 p.m. After consulting with the HCPSS Risk Management Office, HCPSS will not restrict outdoor activities on that day. However, parents and staff are advised to review NASA’s guidelines about safe viewing practices, and share the information with students. Coaches will adjust practice schedules as appropriate.

Please note that any attempt to view the partial eclipse without proper protection may cause serious and permanent eye damage. A list of recommended brands and vendors for protective glasses and viewers is available at https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters.

HCPSS will not be providing any equipment for viewing the partial eclipse.

Thank you for your support in ensuring the safety of our students, and for your ongoing commitment to student well-being.
