HCPSS Celebrates 10 Year Partnership with the Howard County Summer Theatre

June 20th, 2016

Howard County Public School System and the Howard County Summer Theatre (HCST) will celebrate 10 years of providing theatrical experiences for students. The partnership will be re-signed at a HCST dress rehearsal of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas on Wednesday, June 22 at Mt. Hebron High School, 9440 Old Frederick Road.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, HCST will provide opportunities for students to participate collaboratively in a summer theatrical production through a variety of on-stage and behind the scenes work. HCST will support high school theater programs by sharing costume, scenery and props for drama productions, and will provide complimentary tickets for HCPSS staff.

HCST will also provide financial support for the school supply drive program Prepare for Success. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership supports strategies for building competencies in the arts and enhancing services that support student well being.

Howard County Board of Education Vice Chairman Ellen Flynn Giles, Member Sandra French, HCPSS Deputy Superintendent Linda Wise and Coordinator of Fine Arts Gino Molfino will join Howard County Summer Theatre Executive Director Mark Crampton, Theatre Director Tom Sankey, and Prepare for Success Coordinators Roy and Susan Appletree to sign the formal partnership agreement at the June 22 event.

Founded in 1975, Howard County Summer Theatre provides opportunities for community members of all ages to participate in high quality musical theater productions each summer. A portion of show proceeds are donated to various Maryland charities such as Prepare for Success, the USO and The Salvation Army.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office unites businesses and community organizations with schools to enhance the educational experience. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
