HCPSS Middle School Teams Shine at Annual Howard County Black Saga Competition

The Office of Secondary Social Studies hosted the 11th annual Black Saga countywide competition on February 20, 2016, at The Homewood Center in Ellicott City. Twelve students representing two Howard County middle schools came together to prove their knowledge of African American history and geography.

Bonnie Branch Middle School Team 1 is this year’s champion. Team members included Kyra Britt (Grade 8), Maneesha Mahanama (Grade 8), Hasina Stevens (Grade 6) and Waverly Wheeler (Grade 6). Their advisors are Dawn Wrenn and Faye Ebron.

Bonnie Branch Middle School Team 2 took second place. Team members Renarda Booker (Grade 8), Tshanti Carroll (Grade 6), Beza Mangesha (Grade 6) and Ephrata Mangesha (Grade 6). Their advisors are Dawn Wrenn and Faye Ebron.

Murray Hill Middle School earned third place. Team members included Yewande Akinbinu (Grade 8), Esther Ayoade (Grade 8), Maheera Chaudhry (Grade 8) and Michaela Dickerson (Grade 8). Their advisors are Catina Evans, Charnee Bowens and Andrea Shavers.
