Preparing High School Students for the World of Work
All 12 HCPSS high schools host a World of Work event each year, which aims to help students prepare for the interview process. Schools solicit local businesses and community members, and parents/guardians to interview students and provide feedback.
HCPSS Names 2023 Principal and Teachers of the Year
The Howard County Public School System is proud to announce its 2023 awardees for Principal and Teachers of the Year:
Principal of the Year: Derek Anderson, Longfellow Elementary School
Teacher of the Year: Dr. Laura Moore, Waverly Elementary School
Teacher of the Year: Shannon Rembert-Gonzales, Thunder Hill Elementary School
HCPSS Ratifies 2023-2024 Agreements with Employee Bargaining Units
At its meeting on April 13, the Howard County Board of Education ratified its master agreements for the 2023-2024 school year with the Howard County Education Association (HCEA), its educational support professionals unit (HCEA-ESP), and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 1899.
29 HCPSS Elementary Schools Win Computer Science Education Awards
Twenty-nine Howard County Public School System elementary schools have received CS100 awards from CSisElementary and CSforAll. The award recognizes schools that have committed to teaching at least 10 hours of computer science to its students during the 2023-2024 school year.
2023 Summer Programs Registration Requests Open April 1-15, 2023
Online enrollment requests for currently enrolled HCPSS students will reopen Saturday, April 1 at 6 p.m. for summer programs, except BSAP Summer Institute.
Two HCPSS Students Compete to Become the 2023-2024 Student Member of the Board
Lamia Ayaz, a junior from Howard High School, and Antonio Clay-Hardy, a sophomore from Wilde Lake High School, are candidates for the 2023-24 Student Member of the Board (SMOB) position. Ayaz and Clay-Hardy were chosen by their peers at the HCASC Convention, held March 21.
2022-2023 School Year Last Day of School Scheduled
As of Wednesday, March 29, HCPSS has used one inclement weather day this school year. As such, the last day of school for students in full-day Pre-K through grade 12 is now scheduled to be Wednesday, June 14.

Columbia Cricket & Sports Complex Introduces HCPSS Students to Cricket
HCPSS has partnered with the Columbia Cricket & Sports Complex (CCSC) to introduce students to the sport of cricket and encourage participation in healthy activities.
