Student Meals During 2020-2021 School Year

Effective March 1, meals for seven days per week will continue to be provided at no cost to students and any children age 18 and under; however, the days and times meals will be provided will change. Meals will be available in most schools, including those that have been closed for construction and those closed due to inadequate staffing.

Protective face masks are required for anyone picking up meals. Please observe social distancing guidelines.

Meal Locations

For convenience, meals may be picked up at any elementary, middle or high school location, regardless of a student’s home school designation. Meals will be picked up at outside locations as identified on the HCPSS Nutrislice website and mobile app. Only students receiving in-person instruction will be permitted inside school buildings, according to their schedules.

Meal Pickup

Children do not need to be present; parents/guardians may pick up meals for their child(ren). Those with children attending multiple schools may do a single-stop meal pickup.

Meals will be available for pickup only at the following times:

There will be no pickups on Tuesdays and Fridays. Pick-up times/locations are subject to change based on individual school needs and/or staffing.

Students Continuing Virtual Learning (Group V) and any non-HCPSS students age 18 and under

Meals will be available for pick up on Mondays and Thursdays only and will include breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner.

Pick-up times at all meal sites will change as follows:

Students Returning to School In-Person Five Days a Week (Group E)

Breakfast:
Students will come to the cafeteria to receive free breakfast, which will be eaten in the classroom or other designated spaces.

Lunch
Students will come to the cafeteria to eat lunch brought from home or receive lunch, both of which will be eaten in the cafeteria or other designated areas. Social distancing and other safety measures will be enforced. All food served will be individually wrapped or packaged. Students will not be permitted to self-serve any items, including food, milk, condiments and utensils.

Dinner and snacks
Dinner and snacks will be provided at lunch for students to take home at the end of the school day.
Lunch, dinner and snacks will be provided at breakfast for students to take home at the end of the school day on Wednesday.

Weekend meals
Additional meals will be available for pick up on Wednesdays and will include weekend meals of breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner for two days. Pick-up times at all meal sites will change as follows:

Pre-ordering weekend meals is not available. Meals may be picked up Wednesdays by walkup at the student’s school or any available HCPSS meal site.

Students Returning to Schools In-Person Two Days a Week (Group A and Group B)

Breakfast:
Students will come to the cafeteria to receive free breakfast, which will be eaten in the classroom or other designated spaces.

Lunch
Students will come to the cafeteria to eat lunch brought from home or receive lunch, both of which will be eaten in the cafeteria or other designated areas. Social distancing and other safety measures will be enforced. All food served will be individually wrapped or packaged. Students will not be permitted to self-serve any items, including food, milk, condiments and utensils.

Dinner and snacks
Dinner and snacks will be provided at lunch for students to take home at the end of the school day.

Virtual instruction days and weekend meals
Meals will be available for pick up on Wednesdays and will include the following breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack for five days. Pick-up times at all meal sites will change as follows:

Pre-ordering meals is not available. Meals may be picked up Wednesdays by walkup at the student’s school or any available HCPSS meal site.

Pre-Ordering Meals

For students continuing virtual education (Group V) and any non-HCPSS students age 18 and under, meals may be pre-ordered by completing a pre-order form at least two school days in advance. Visit the HCPSS Nutrislice website or mobile app and select the Pre-Order Menu, then choose a meal site location and order your meals by day. Paper pre-order forms will also be available at each meal site.

Pre-ordering meals is not available for students in Groups E, A or B.

Assigning a Designee

Some families may find it difficult to pick up meals for their children at the locations or times when meals are served. Parents/guardians may pick up meals for their children and up to one other family without completing a request form. Families also may authorize a designee, who may pick up meals for up to three families, by submitting an online or paper form. See guidelines for meal pickup by designees for detailed information.

Free and Reduced Meals program

Many families are eligible to participate in the FARMs program, which helps families save money and opens access to many resources and discounts, including testing fees, tuition, internet and much more. FARMs enrollment and participation is confidential. Families must reapply each year. Find more information and apply online.

Food and Nutrition Services

Food and Nutrition Services will comply with all food safety, employee safety and social distancing guidelines, including using disposable food service items, and cleaning and sanitizing tables/surfaces between each meal service, in accordance with recommended protocols. Food and Nutrition Services will also fully accommodate specific food service requirements, including food allergies and the privacy associated with students who receive free or reduced-price meals. Menu options will be streamlined to facilitate the delivery and serving of meals during different stages of the reopening plan.
