Career Academies Information Session, Jan. 5

December 21st, 2016

The Howard County Public School System will host “Focus on Your Future,” an information session for secondary students and parents about the school system’s Career Academies. Participants will hear from current Academy students and alumni about the opportunities, internships and projects they are involved with. The information session is from 7–9 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the HCPSS Applications and Research Laboratory at 10920 Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City.

The information session will provide opportunities to learn how the Career Academies at the ARL and each HCPSS high school provide students with opportunities to earn college credit, scholarships, industry certifications, participate in worksite and mentorship experiences, and become creative problem solvers by participating in hands-on project based learning.

Career Academy programs are designed to prepare high school students to be college and career ready and to meet the demands of the 21st century global economy. Academies are offered in 20 different career fields, including aerospace engineering, Cybersecurity networking, health professions, hotel and restaurant management, and more.

A Career Academy offers high school students with similar interests a unique opportunity to prepare for college and entry-level employment in specific career areas. Each Career Academy offers a recommended sequence of courses, internships, capstone project, or research project related to students’ career goals.

For more information, or to arrange interviews with students and staff, visit the Career Academies website or call the Office of Career and Technology Education at 410-313-6629.
