Howard County Human Trafficking Awareness Day event, Jan. 11

HCPSS officials will join Howard County Government agencies and other organizations across the nation in lifting awareness of human trafficking.

The Howard County Office of Human Rights is hosting Human Trafficking Awareness Day, a public information event at the Howard County Library System’s Miller Branch in Ellicott City.  Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman will speak at 11:30 a.m. Proposed legislation to be introduced for consideration by the Maryland General Assembly during the 2016 session in Annapolis will be presented. The event is free and open to the public.

According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) 2013 statistics, Maryland had the 8th highest call rate in the nation for human trafficking calls, an increase from the prior year. In 2013, the Polaris Project, an arm of NHTRC, received 707 phone calls, 31 online tips and 24 emails from Maryland.
